We've been designing and documenting away on our next design/build project, and it's a breath of fresh air to be doing a build that isn't all steel or shipping container based.
The miniHOUSE is a 375s.f. accessory building in the Brentwood area of Austin, Tx. It will serve as a "studio" for the small 900s.f. existing frame house. While it won't presently be used as an accessory dwelling unit, it is design as such and can easily accommodate an inhabitant or two, with its kitchenette, 3/4 bath, and dedicated washer and dryer closet, not to mention the 6' x 28' covered porch, and headerless sliding doors and windows. Couple that with exposed trusses and vaulted ceiling in the main space (a little bit of structural gymnastics goes a long way!) and you have a pleasant compact dwelling that will serve its owner well as a studio and a possible future Granny-flat.
